Mechanical Musical Instrument Collection in Dundee, MI October 7, 2023

We have been invited to see and hear a fabulous collection of mechanical musical instruments in Dundee, Michigan. Many of our members were fascinated by the mechanical musical instrument collection at Stahl’s Automotive during the Detroit Grand Invitational last year.

Housed in two pole barns are player pianos, Nickelodeons, Orchestrions, Mortiers, a DECAP, music boxes, monkey organs, banjo player, a 3-manual Wurlitzer pipe organ, and a collection of antique laboratory glassware for high voltage experiments (where else could you see that?!). Join us to find out which instruments use vacuum, compressed air, hand power, or electricity to operate. Then switching gears, the collection moves from the twentieth century to the twenty-first century with a laser X-Y plotter for cutting thin wood signs and numbers, plus it etches flat glass or round glass (think beer mugs!). This is one of the finest mechanical musical instrument collections in the Midwest.

Dundee is at the intersection of US-23 and Tecumseh St, exit #17, 17 miles north of the Ohio border. There are plenty of restaurants in the area to have lunch. After lunch, head over to the giant Cabela’s store, north & west of the intersection, park near the south entrance. Our rendezvous point is inside the store at the BIG fish tank.  Be there at 2:00 pm sharp!  When everyone is together, we will drive over as a group to the collection, just 4 miles/10 minutes from Bass Pro Shop/Cabela’s.
